Special Invitation to Postgraduates

Special Invitation to Postgraduates to Attend DSAI Annual Conference 2017 Session on Postgraduate Network and Call for New Postgraduate Representative

Dear Postgraduates,

In advance of the Development Studies Association Ireland Annual Conference "Development Through Rights: Theory, Policy and Practice in a Changing International Context" (Dublin, 23-24 November 2017), we are making;

A call to all Masters and PhD students to encourage them to attend the Conference, and an invitation to the DSAI Postgraduate Network lunchtime session during the conference to explore how they can engage with and benefit from the DSAI network.

The two-day conference has a reduced student rate of €45, which includes DSAI membership for the coming year. For those coming from outside of the greater Dublin area, there is a travel bursary of up to €50 to cover travel costs.

DSAI membership entitles postgraduate students access to networking with like-minded people and well-established actors across international development issues, from academics and researchers to NGOs and activists. DSAI currently runs seven Study Groups: Civil Society: Child Health; Education; Gender; Humanitarian; Nutrition; and Adaptive Programming. Through these Study Groups, postgraduate members can link with those who have an interest in the same research area in international development. Our newsletter and website offer postgraduate students opportunities to disseminate their findings and promote publications, as well as access support and feedback on their ongoing research. Through our Postgraduate Network, DSAI actively seeks to support and promote postgraduate students' skills, experience and networks. We invite postgraduate members to request tailored events and workshops, from trainings to talks by invited speakers. The Postgraduate Network has previously compiled the Student Guidelines for Ethical Fieldwork Overseas.

We are eager to expand the reach and membership of the DSAI Postgraduate Network to involve more members from all Higher Education Institutions around Ireland.

At this stage we are also looking to appoint a new Postgraduate representative on the DSAI Steering Committee. This is a great opportunity to get involved at the core of the association!

If there are any questions about the conference or getting involved in the DSAI PG Network in general or about becoming the new PG representative, please contact the current postgraduate representative, Derina Johnson, at postgrad@dsaireland.org

Looking forward to hearing from you,

DSA Ireland
